He has been featured in the San Diego Union Tribune Kids Day News, Temecula Valley News, Children’s Hospital Magazine’s Annual Report Edition, Southwest Riverside New Network, American Lung Association Annual Report, Volunteer of the Month (June 2011) for the American Lung Association and recently he has spoken to the Board of Directors for Children’s Hospital in San Diego, CA, SDG&E along with the American Lung Association, NBC Universal Television to educate on asthma and his favorite, sharing his testimony with fellow asthmatic Larry English former player of the San Diego Chargers on behalf of children with these disabilities. Carey has been featured on NBC Universal and ABC Cool Kids. Carey has taken on the role of Ambassador of the American Lung Association and has started his foundation “Carey Poindexter, Fighting for Air”.
Carey’s health challenges would have caused many parents to wilt under the pressure, but not Vikita. She was determined not to let her son’s health challenges take away from his quality of life. Vikita learned everything she could about Carey’s dual illnesses and has often times found herself advising Carey’s doctors on a course of action to treat his lung disease and food allergies. Not only has she been able to give her “little man” the quality of life he so richly deserves, she shares her care and compassion for others suffering the same fate. Carey is currently a student at California Baptist University.

Vikita is an accomplished published author with the completion of autobiography entitled “Brokenness to Breakthrough”.
