UCR’s Chicano Student Programs hosting family-friendly evening of music and dance
Chicano Student Programs of UC Riverside present the 20th Annual Noche Cultural on Saturday, January 25, 2014. The event is an evening of variety entertainment for the entire family. Doors open at 6:15 pm with show to begin at 6:30 pm in the University Theatre.
This year’s lineup includes a featured performance by Chris Reza y Mariachi. Chris began singing at the age of 19 with renowned vocal instructor Gualtiero Negrini. Chris has performed professionally at various venues such as Encuentro Internacional Del Mariachi y Charrería as well as Mariachi USA Festival, and alongside international artists such as Beatriz Adriana and Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan. He has recently released his debut album on ITunes and is looking forward to performing at Noche Cultural.
Also performing will be Grupo A.S.O.S.A.L, home of the Ballet Folklórico Nacional de El Salvador. A.S.O.S.A.L. was established in Los Angeles in April 1991 as a non-profit organization to support the growing Salvadoran community. As time progressed, their mission included Salvadoran cultural preservation, education and celebration through the teaching of visual and performing arts. They will be performing “El Xuc Salvadoreño” composed of música y danza tropical. Another group that will also be performing will be Ballet Folkórico Mi Linda Nicaragua founded by Miriam Arroyo, who serves as the director of the group. They were created in December 1991 with the goal of honoring and preserving Latin American culture as well as engaging the youth in a positive activity, the group has now had many performances on local and national stages sharing this exact goal with their audiences.
Joining us at Noche Cultural will be Sean Oliu, former contestant of La Voz Kids. Hailing from Anaheim, California Sean began singing at the tender age of 7 with the Ritmó Mariachi Academy. At 10 years old, he was a contestant on the popular Telemundo show La Voz Kids selected to be in Prince Royce’s Team. He is now 11 years old and is a solo child-artist with a love of cultura y música, who is showing the world that children need to follow their dreams! Conjunto Xi will also be joining our exciting line-up. Conjunto Xi is a son jarocho group from Los Angeles composed of four talented musicians who have a love for música Jarocha y Huasteca. They enjoy sharing their music with the community and are dedicated to bringing the music of Mexico to the children of Los Angeles. Making their 20th appearance will be the local familia Los Romero with their own very special renditions of romantic ballads. A staple of our event, their presence represents a rich history of music sharing and storytelling.
